AICBU Hosts Deputy Director of the Center for Outbreak Preparedness, Duke- NUS, Singapore for Future Collaborations in Emerging Infectious Diseases in Sri Lanka.

Ruklanthi (Rukie) de Alwis, Deputy Director of the Center for Outbreak Preparedness (COP) and Asst.Professor at the Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Programme at Duke-NUS, Singapore, recently visited the Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit (AICBU) at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. AICBU serves as a regional partner in the Asia Pathogen Genomics Initiative programme by the Center for Outbreak Preparedness.

The meeting was highly productive, focusing on the advancements in the ASIA PGI projects. Discussions also centered around future collaborations between AICBU and COP, Duke-NUS, with a particular emphasis on emerging infectious diseases, specifically respiratory viruses. The exchange of ideas extended to the potential development of collaborative training programs.

From AICBU, Directors Prof. Chandima Jeewandara and Prof. Neelika Malavige, as well as Postdoctoral Scientist Dr. Tibutius Thanesh, actively participated in the deliberations. This engagement underscores the commitment of both institutions to fostering meaningful partnerships and advancing research initiatives in the realm of infectious diseases.
