We are conducting research regarding the gut microbiome profile in sportspersons, persons with metabolic syndrome and healthy individuals in a Sri Lankan population.
We are conducting research regarding the gut microbiome using ONT (Oxford Nanopore Technologies) 16s sequencing technology. The composition and diversity of microorganisms present in the gut are analysed by amplifying and sequencing a specific region of the 16s ribosomal RNA gene, which is unique to each species of bacteria. This information is then used to identify and quantify the different bacterial species present in the gut. This is a powerful tool for understanding the complex relationships between the microorganisms in the gut and human health, and for developing strategies for maintaining a healthy gut microbiome.
We are conducting research regarding the aetiology and risk factors of food allergies and anaphylaxis and their psychological and quality of life impact in a local population.
We are investigating the aetiology and risk factors associated with the many different types of allergies (food, drugs and insect venom etc) in a Sri Lankan population as well as the risk factors for the development of Anaphylaxis. We are also looking into the psychological and quality of life impact of patients with these conditions. Through our research we hope to shed light regarding the current situation in Sri Lanka and what can be done to improve patient care.

Realising the need for increased research on autoimmune disease in Sri Lanka, we have started driving resources towards this space. We are looking at the association of autoimmune diseases and its clinical manifestations in our population.
